Breast Milk for Sale
A mum in Florida USA has shared how she earns about 300 pounds (N151,251.78) selling her breast milk on line and people are bashing her for it; questioning why she should be selling what she got free.
Julie Dennis said she started the business after she gave birth to a surrogate baby. Six months after, the baby no longer needed the milk so she offered to sell it on line.
A Florida Newspaper reports that she said though the money was good and helped her family a lot; the venture was not all about money. She said has been criticized for selling what she got free but she was charging for her time and the pumping.
She said she spends hours hooked to breast pump which takes most of her time. ‘I would not go into a store and get free formula. So it baffles me that people expect to get free breast milk.
Even charging one dollar an ounce means I get paid less than the minimum wage; adding up the time spent on it. That does not include replacing pump parts every six to eight weeks, the cost of bags and the cost of sterilization units that I use’; she added.
